Forgotten First Martyrs – Forgotten Unborn – The Louisville Helpers of God's Precious Infants

Three Days after his death Christ rose again as was prophesied, fulfilling the promises of the prophets. Bringing salvation, which is HOPE, to us all that first Easter day. Today, three days after celebrating Christ’s birth, the church remembers those first martyrs for our Lord, the Holy Innocents. We recount those early days in Christ’s life when in today’s Gospel reading we hear:

“When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod,^* behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star^* at its rising and have come to do him homage. When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born….

Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him…

When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious.
He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.
Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:

A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be consoled, since they were— no more.

Why was King Herod so troubled? So threatened by the birth of an infant? How did his angst spill over to an entire city as we hear that ALL Jerusalem was troubled with him? Was it his fear of change? Fear of an unknown future? One that possibly meant loosing the pleasures in his life, this life? A feeling so strong that an entire city feared this change?

Such feelings seem rampant today. Doesn’t society push these fears upon the pregnant women of our day? No longer are children seen as a hope for their people, their society; a way of salvaging our present day living. No, those for “choice” convince women that children are a burden to their futures. Instead of offering a sense of peace to women, the culture of death offers trouble to their hearts, minds and souls as a way of manipulating these women to do the will of these “Herods for choice”.

The Helpers are here to remind you that salvation (the act of saving or protecting from harm, risk, loss, destruction, etc) found in Christ exists all around you through our friends at the Little Way, Lifehouse, the Golden Arrow and 40 Days for Life to name just a few.
