July Mass – A call to Faithfulness

We are not called to be successful, we are called to be FAITHFUL.

Sometimes it can be tempting to give up, to blend in, to ignore the call of TRUTH, especially if we begin to judge all our actions on the amount of success we think we should be having. But Fr. Shooner pointed out to us, on a warm Saturday morning in July (the Feast day of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha), that ours is a mission of fidelity.

In the Gospel reading Christ says, So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.  A beautiful statement of Love and Fidelity. Sometimes as we journey in life and in faith, we can feel as if we have stepped out too far. Maybe feeling stranded having gone beyond what we see as our own abilities. It is while we are stuck on the ledge of doubt that we learn to put our Faith in Christ.  If we Trust Christ to take care of us, His frightened sparrows, we open ourselves up to His grace.  Accepting his grace we are able to move forward at our Lord’s pace, accomplishing HIS will.

Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, you encountered great hostility when you converted to Christianity. And though you suffered tremendously because of this, you allowed our Lord to encourage you to remain faithful. Pray that we too may accept the grace of perseverence and seek solely to do Christ’s will. Amen
