Thanks to Fr. Matthew Hardesty for celebrating mass for us today. In reflecting on the day’s Gospel reading Fr. Matthew pointed out that like the father of the prodigal son, our God comes to meet us when we turn our hearts away from sin and back towards Him. He makes us whole, no longer slaves but sons and daughters in Christ.
Similarly, God goes out to bring the Body of Christ, the brothers and sisters in Christ, to those returning home. In the same way the father in the prodigal son went out to bring the older brother to accept his formerly wayward brother. Thereby grafting us back into the Body of Christ.
Let our hearts be open to God’s mercy both in the receiving and in the giving.
St. Peter the Apostle, pray for us.
