February Mass – Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

Another crisp, windy and cold winter morning, reminds us that though life may be harsh at times, we are called to persevere. Fr. Terry Langford mentioned that it was 154 years ago, which was 6 years after the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville was built, that a young Bernadette Soubirous had her first meeting with Our Blessed Mother at Lourdes.

During the times of those visions, the world was struggling greatly with virtue and faith in God. In his homily, Fr. Terry reminded us how Bernadette herself was rejected by her Bishop and even her own family found the entire situation incredulous. Our Lady called Bernadette, and the entire world, to fasting and prayer. And in doing so, our Lady brought many souls back to her Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ and showed the great revelation in truth that Our Lady was indeed the Immaculate Conception.

We find ourselves living in very similar times, as so many have forgotten that Life is beautiful.  Yes, the current times are beckoning that same call, a call to fasting and prayer. Can you hear it?

Let us ask St. Bernadette and Our Lady of Lourdes to beseech  Jesus to grant us the grace to pray and fast for the reparation of souls, including our lowly own.

St. Bernadette, Pray for us. Our Lady of Lourdes Pray for us.
