The members of the group called the Satanic Grotto, held a “black mass”, using mass kits at the Kansas State Capitol on Friday March 28th. Pay attention to the many Catholic terms here.
mass. grotto. mass kit. They used what we hope was unconsecrated bread, but all this to mock and ridicule, on a Friday during Lent no less, the Holy Trinity and the One True Church. Yes all these terms are Catholic. While Satan attacks all thing Christ, it is note worthy that this Satanic group mimics the Catholic liturgy. There are a myriad of ways to worship, so why not mimic going to mosque or temple? Or why not call it a “black revival”, or “black temple” or “black mosque”? Why go to great length to set up things in a form that mocks specially the Catholic Liturgy? How can a person see this occur and still think that the Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon? Especially those versed in scripture. Surely they are familiar with Matthew 12:26, “and if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?” Would Satan attack himself? What is the satanic obsession with the Catholic liturgy and most specifically the Eucharist? Let go back to the Old Testament.
When God removed the Israelites from the sin of Egypt it was necessary, due to their attachment to those sinful habits that remained in their hearts, that He lead them out into the nothingness of the desert far from the temptations of worldly belongings. Far from idols. Far from money. Far from food. Far from all those things we as human beings often become overly attached. They naturally grumbled and complained like we do when we have to detox. Yet God was there for them. He Himself fed them with the “what is it?”. Giving them manna (what is it?), literally the bread from heaven. More that just a medical substitute like methadone, it was not only food being provided but the opportunity to Trust. The Father was saying I love you and want to provide for you will you trust me to do that?

So when God the Son came those centuries later, He too sought to take the Israelites out into the desert of their hearts. He challenged them to forsake the worldly. The false gods found in foods, money, addictions. And He too gave them food to sustain them in their efforts. On that Holy Thursday evening, He placed His very self in the bread and wine so that those who through faith trusted in His words would have the DAILY BREAD that he had instructed them to pray for and it would sustain them in the desert of this life. He makes it no longer bread alone but the very Word of God.(Matt. 4:4). This is the path He is asking them to TRUST in John 6. A way that they must travel if they are to detach themselves of temptations of this world.
Yet, in the early hours of that Good Friday morning we see how the people responded to what Jesus was offering them. They turned on Him. Beat Him. Mocked Him as King. What is the Satanic Grotto doing but also mocking our Lord on a Friday. Mocking the very gift of Himself that He has given us to sustain us. The gift that calls us to move away from selfishness. The gift that is proof that His LOVE is truly present in the world. Can Satan mock Satan?
No other church was mocked that day. No other religion, because no other faith, has the Eucharist, the true bread from heaven.
There is Heaven and Hell. Light and Darkness. The Catholic Church and chimerical churches.
Reread the Gospel of John, especially John 6. Cast out the ways of this world and head to the desert during the remainder of Lent. The Lord still wants to feed you His very self.
Trust Him and Come home.
